The Atterbury, Autograph Collection

The Atterbury, Autograph Collection opened July 14, 2026 in downtown Pittsburgh's 1906 Fulton Building, a 300-room restoration led by RLJ Lodging Trust of the landmark Grosvenor Atterbury-designed office building built for Carnegie Steel's Henry Phipps. It's Marriott's newest Autograph Collection property and one of downtown Pittsburgh's most significant hotel debuts in decades, anchored by a restored rotunda, an integrated local art program and an all-day restaurant, The Drafting Room.

The place

The Atterbury occupies the Fulton Building, built in 1906 by architect Grosvenor Atterbury for Carnegie Steel magnate Henry Phipps, in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh — steps from Market Square, the Allegheny Riverfront, PNC Park and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. The building had never previously operated as a hotel before RLJ Lodging Trust's multi-million-dollar restoration.

The concept

Interior designer Christine Shanahan of HVS Design preserved the Fulton Building's most iconic architectural elements — most visibly a restored rotunda and skylit atrium that now anchor the hotel — while introducing rooms and suites shaped by the original structure's varied floorplates rather than a repeated template. Twice daily, the atrium hosts "The Moment," a music-and-light installation projected onto the rotunda, built to double as a customizable backdrop for meetings and events. An integrated art program threads through the property referencing Grosvenor Atterbury and his wife Astelle's own interest in the arts, alongside murals by local artists and elevator-lobby displays tied to different eras of Pittsburgh's history, from its steel and riverfront roots to landmarks like Phipps Conservatory and the Gayety Theater. Nearly 20,000 square feet of meeting and event space is built around the restored rotunda and a separate lounge, The Fulton Room.

Dining & wellness

The Drafting Room is the hotel's all-day restaurant, serving contemporary American dishes such as short-rib pierogies and Neuske's-wrapped shrimp over cheddar grits, with a cocktail list divided into "Blueprints," "Permits" and "Assembly"; a weekend brunch service was still being finalized at opening. The Fulton Room operates as a separate ground-floor lounge for informal meetings and private events.
