Loews Hotels has signed a letter of intent with Pennsylvania state, county and city partners to build a 500-room hotel attached to Pittsburgh's David L. Lawrence Convention Center, part of a $418 million investment announced in May 2026. No groundbreaking date, architect or opening year has been confirmed — the project is still at the non-binding letter-of-intent stage.

The place

The hotel is planned on Penn Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh, attached directly to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center — the same connected-hotel model used by the neighboring Westin Pittsburgh at the Convention Center.

The concept

In May 2026, Pennsylvania's governor's office announced that Loews Hotels had signed a letter of intent with state, county and city partners to build a 500-room convention-center hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh, part of a package aimed at spurring more than $600 million in investment in the district. The project is costed at $418 million in total, including $135 million from Loews itself and $30 million in state funding, and has been fast-tracked into Pennsylvania's Permit Fast Track Program; officials project roughly 1,200 union construction jobs and 400 permanent union jobs. Crucially, a letter of intent is not a finalized development agreement: no site plan, architect, groundbreaking date or opening date has been announced, and the project remains at an early, non-binding stage.
