The place
The hotel sits at 453 Boulevard of the Allies, at the corner of Boulevard of the Allies and Grant Street in the Golden Triangle, Pittsburgh's downtown core, a few blocks from The Industrialist Hotel and Market Square.
The concept
The building began in 1924 as headquarters for the Salvation Army, a Late Gothic Revival structure by architect Thomas Pringle with a 1930 addition along Third Avenue. Its first life as a hotel came in 2017, when it opened as the independent Distrikt Hotel Pittsburgh. In July 2022 the property changed flags again, re-emerging as Joinery Hotel Pittsburgh under Hilton's Curio Collection — a genuine change of operator and distribution, swapping a small independent brand for Hilton Honors, not a repaint of the same flag. The rebrand kept the Late Gothic Revival shell — restored stonework and marble in the public areas — while reworking guest rooms around a modern-industrial palette of earth-toned leather and steel accents. A check-in "offering table" stocked with local beverages and goods, a lobby library of board games and vinyl records, and a rotating contemporary-art collection curated by Nine Dot Arts spotlighting emerging local artists round out the public spaces, alongside a 10th-floor outdoor terrace over the Golden Triangle skyline and roughly 800 square feet of meeting space.
Dining & wellness
The Millhouse, a modern wood-fired grill drawing on Pittsburgh's industrial past, anchors the ground floor, while EP Lounge in the lobby serves small-purveyor spirits, fresh juices and zero-proof cocktails alongside light snacks. Both lean on local partners — Voodoo Brewery, Pittsburgh Winery, Nicholas Coffee and Get Hip Records among them — echoing the "community gathering place" positioning Hilton used at launch.
