The place
Senna House sits at 7501 East Camelback Road, at the corner of 75th Street, in Scottsdale's Entertainment District — the walkable core of Old Town packed with restaurants, galleries and nightlife. The six-story building looks out toward Camelback Mountain and downtown Scottsdale, and is close to Fashion Square and Scottsdale Stadium, spring-training home of the San Francisco Giants. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is about seven miles away. The address carries local weight: it is the former home of Don & Charlie's, a steakhouse the Carson family ran for roughly 38 years and a fixture for spring-training visitors before it closed in April 2019.
The concept
Developed by Phoenix-based Opwest Partners with Argosy Real Estate Partners, and designed by architecture firm Nelson Partners with interiors by Studio 11 and House of Form, Senna House was built ground-up rather than converted from an existing property — the basis for its "first purpose-built, soft-branded hotel" claim in Arizona. The name references the senna flower native to the Sonoran Desert, and the design leans into that desert-modern register: living walls of succulents, mixed-media artwork and materials meant to read as regional rather than generic luxury. As a Curio Collection property, it operates under Hilton's loyalty and distribution system while keeping an independent identity. The 169 rooms and suites are spread across six floors and include the 570-square-foot Winfield Suites and the 730-square-foot Pinnacle Suites, which add a separate parlor. Rooms carry 65-inch televisions, Nespresso machines and walk-in showers, with an Agave King category built around hypoallergenic touches such as HEPA filtration and a vitamin D shower head. The hotel positions itself for both leisure travelers drawn to Old Town's bar and restaurant scene and business or event guests, with roughly 4,000 square feet of meeting space on site.
Dining & wellness
The ground-floor restaurant, Cala, opened in January 2022 under chef Beau MacMillan, previously of Sanctuary Camelback Mountain, working with the Clive Collective; Peter McQuaid runs the kitchen day to day. The menu is modern Mediterranean, pulling from Greek, Spanish, Italian and Moroccan coastal cooking with an emphasis on seafood and seasonal produce, served alongside a cocktail program led by Clint Spotleson at a 40-seat bar on a 1,700-square-foot patio. On the roof, the Sonora Swim Club pairs an outdoor pool with mountain and skyline views and its own cocktail bar overlooking Camelback Road, plus cabanas and a 24-hour marketplace for guests staying elsewhere in the building.
