Marriott and Sage Hospitality have broken ground on Indianapolis' first Ritz-Carlton, a 176-room hotel skybridged into Gainbridge Fieldhouse as part of a $300 million entertainment-district redevelopment. The project was originally unveiled in 2024 as a 170-room Shinola Hotel before Marriott took over the flag in early 2026, pushing the opening to early 2028.

The place

The hotel occupies the former CSX Building at Pennsylvania and Georgia Streets, three blocks from the Indiana Convention Center, with a pedestrian bridge linking it directly to Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home of the Indiana Pacers.

The concept

Boxcar Development, the Simon family's investment vehicle, first announced this $300 million entertainment-district redevelopment around a Shinola-branded hotel in 2024; by January 2026, Marriott and Sage Hospitality had taken the project over as the city's first Ritz-Carlton, folded into a mixed-use complex with a 4,000-capacity Live Nation music venue. The switch upgrades the property from a lifestyle concept to full luxury positioning.

Dining & wellness

Plans call for an upscale restaurant, a lobby bar and restaurant, and a private guest lounge, alongside a spa, fitness center and outdoor terrace.

We had an amazing experience with The Ritz Charles for our wedding! From the planning process to the wedding day, they made us feel so special and truly took care of everything. A huge thank you to Megan, our event planner, who went above and beyond answering our countless questions and bringing my vision to life. She made the entire process so easy and stress-free. Joey, our day-of coordinator, was equally incredible. He made sure everything ran smoothly, checked on us throughout the night, surprised us with a thoughtful gift, and made sure we never had to worry about a thing. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, and we were never without a drink. Every staff member was so kind and attentive. We couldn’t have asked for a better venue or team and would highly recommend The Ritz Charles to any couple planning their wedding!

We TRULY could not be happier with our experience at Ritz Charles. We had our reception in the Ginkgo Ballroom, and it was exactly as we hoped! The Ritz team does it all-- incredible service, delicious food and drinks, high-quality rentals, and is a one-stop shop for everything we needed, which made it SO easy for us. We worked with Elizabeth Bielski and she was incredibly helpful, always answering my questions and working with me to get what I wanted within our budget. I cannot recommend the entire Ritz team enough!

The Ritz is one of my favorite venues to photograph! Stunning light from every angle & such a timeless look! The white chapel + garden pavilion is SUCH a vibe!! My clients love their experience here & they always say that planning is so easy because they offer so much in house. 100/10. No notes. One of the best venues in Indiana

I had a July daytime wedding at the Ritz Charles, and my experience with them was fantastic! Communication was always quick and informative, the staff was professional and accommodating, and the venue was absolutely stunning. We had our ceremony in the chapel with our reception in the ballroom, and the entire experience was just perfect. There was plenty of space, delicious food, a clean and professional atmosphere, and lots of spots to take pictures around the venue. Not a lot of brides get to say that their wedding day was perfect, but I do and a big part of that is because of the staff at the Ritz Charles. They advocated for me, they were patient with all of my questions and requests, and they made every last dream of mine come true when it came to my wedding.

The Ritz Charles is THE place to have your wedding reception in the Indy area. They are a one stop shop... food, drinks, cake, dance floor, draping, tables/chairs, table clothes, the list goes on... they make it SO easy while making it look easy. WOW! I cannot speak highly enough about the day of on-site staff who will bring your wedding day to life! The wait staff was extremely professionally, polished & worked quickly. The bar lines were never long & dinner moved extremely quick. AND bonus… the food is DELICIOUS!! We really appreciated the indoor and outdoor space of the Ballroom making our 300 guests feel welcome and gave them enough space. We really appreciated that they allowed us to come in the afternoon prior to our wedding day to make sure that the room was set-up. Emily was great to work with for all the pre-wedding preparations leading up to our big day!
