Bottleworks Hotel

Bottleworks Hotel opened on December 15, 2020, inside the top two floors of Indianapolis's former Coca-Cola bottling plant on Massachusetts Avenue, once the world's largest bottling facility. Geronimo Hospitality Group's 139-room independent boutique hotel anchors the wider Bottleworks District redevelopment and has since won awards for its historic restoration.

The place

850 Massachusetts Avenue, anchoring the northern end of the Bottleworks District at the top of downtown's Mass Ave arts and theater strip, a short walk from Monument Circle.

The concept

Built by the Yuncker brothers in the early 1930s and expanded over the following two decades, the plant was at one point the world's largest Coca-Cola bottling facility, producing more than 2.2 million bottles a week behind one of the largest Art Deco terracotta facades in Indiana. Hendricks Commercial Properties, through its Geronimo Hospitality Group, redeveloped the full complex into the mixed-use Bottleworks District — a food hall, a movie theater and this hotel occupying the building's top two floors — marking the first time any part of the plant operated as a hotel. RATIO Architects handled the historic restoration and Eppstein Uhen Architects the new construction, pairing original Art Deco details with contemporary finishes across the 139 rooms. The renovation won Indiana Landmarks' 2023 Cook Cup for Outstanding Restoration and took top honors at the 2022 ICSC Global Design & Development Awards.

Dining & wellness

Modita serves as the hotel's fine-dining restaurant; Sundry and Vice is a Prohibition-styled cocktail bar tucked inside the building; and Blue Collar Coffee Co. covers coffee and casual food. The hotel also has a spa with massage and steam-room treatments and a fitness center.
