No independent source has confirmed a construction start or opening date since approval, despite an original early-2025 completion target.

The place

The site sits at 1081-1089 Gold Coast Highway in Palm Beach, a Gold Coast suburb between Burleigh Heads and Currumbin, on land previously occupied by a Centrelink office rather than any earlier hotel.

The concept

Gold Coast City Council approved this $120 million, six-level hotel in March 2023, designed by Plus Architecture for a joint venture led by Rob Steer's Steer Developments. Coverage at approval described it as the first hotel of its kind in Palm Beach, a suburb that has seen rapid apartment development without a hotel of comparable scale. Plus Architecture principal Danny Juric said the brief called for "a considered approach to create a standout development in an increasingly discerning market." Construction was expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2023 with completion targeted for early 2025, but no independent report has confirmed a groundbreaking, construction progress or a firm opening date since approval.

I moved to Palm Beach a little over a year ago and I enjoy playing the Pokies at the pub. The service that I experience has always been good however the standout employee is Kyleen. ( not sure of spelling) . She is welcoming and wonderful, she doesn’t suffer fools of which she encounters regularly, I have seen her deal with patrons and the security guards stand back. The whole environment changes when she is working and she does not stop working from the moment she arrives at the bar. She sings along to her great music and always has a smile and a happy disposition. It’s almost as if we are sitting in her lounge room!!! She shows genuine care and respect to the elderly and vulnerable patrons and supplies cups of tea, coffee and biscuits without them having to leave their games and order at the bar. If I owned a business I would pay her double and steal her from you. Kyleen is a local legend!!!!

As a solo, I was quite happy with just the room and a sink in it while using the shared shower/bathroom as it was very affordable. That being said, the twin bed room is only what I wanted and nothing else. They have other rooms with multiple beds/bunks, kitchen and even private bathroom but you need to book with with to request it. Staff are super nice and the location is amazing about a 20 minute cab ride from OOL airport. There's a Cole's across the street for groceries, some cute cafes and a Japanese restaurant nearby along with bars etcs. I'm always going to shop a room here. Be nice to the cleaning staff they are super chill.

I checked in on Thursday and checked out on Friday. My stay itself was great, and the service from the gentleman who I believe was the manager was professional and welcoming. He explained the $100 holding deposit at check-in, which I completely understood. The issue arose after I checked out. On Saturday, instead of the $100 remaining as a pending transaction, the money was actually deducted from my account. While I understand mistakes can happen, my experience when I called the hotel was extremely disappointing. The staff member I spoke with was one of the rudest customer service representatives I have ever dealt with. She barely let me explain the situation before insisting I didn't know what I was talking about and telling me to contact my bank. I understand the difference between a pending transaction and an amount that has actually been debited from my account, so her dismissive attitude was both frustrating and unhelpful. It's a shame because the excellent service I received during my stay was overshadowed by the poor customer service I experienced afterwards.

I havent stayed there but the pokie room is the reason i choose this hotel. The lollies, chips, nuts, hot choclates are amazing. And the lady that runs the bar in the pokies (red head is hailarious) she really likes her job you can tell. She interacts with the customers and plays awsome music

After circling a nearby public car park for quite some time we waited for a car to reverse, we were about to take the available space when a staff member from this pub cut in and took it. Frustrating, we yelled out our disgust, then we moved on and went to lunch elsewhere. About an hour later, we went to the bar for drinks—only to realise the same staff member was working. She refused to serve us outright. No discussion, no attempt to resolve anything. We asked to speak with a manager, who told us we would need to apologise before they would serve us. Given the situation, we declined—and were then refused service entirely. So to summarise: a staff member behaves poorly outside the venue, then denies service inside it, and management backs that decision rather than handling it professionally. There’s a clear lack of basic customer service and accountability here. If this is how they treat paying regular customers over something so minor, I’d strongly recommend going elsewhere.
