Mövenpick Hotel Hobart

Mövenpick Hotel Hobart opened on January 21, 2021 as the first Mövenpick in Australia. Jaws Architects designed the building, with 221 rooms and suites on levels three to eighteen and public areas on the two floors below. It stands on Elizabeth Street, close to the waterfront, and is the third tallest building in the city.

The place

The hotel is on Elizabeth Street, near Hobart's waterfront. One report places it at number 28. Guest floors begin at level three according to Accor's launch release, while an architect-linked release says level four, so the sources differ on where rooms start.

The concept

Jaws Architects describes the project as a family of buildings, a way of breaking up the mass to suit the street and the city. The common areas were designed by Greymatters. The management contract was signed with Global Premium Hotels, a Singapore-based group, which operates the property under the Accor banner.

Interiors take their colours from Tasmanian landscapes, and the brand's Swiss origin shows in small rituals: a daily Chocolate Hour, in which a complimentary sweet comes with a chocolate-based drink bought at the bar, chocolate tasting packages and Mövenpick ice cream sold on site.

Other facilities include a fitness centre and sustainable bathroom amenities. The flexible function space takes up to 100 people, with a pre-event area that has its own bar.

Dining & wellness

The menu leans on lighter food, available at the table or as a grab-and-go option. Breakfast includes energy shots and fresh fruit and vegetables. A full bar serves the pre-event area, and the Chocolate Hour runs daily. The launch materials give no restaurant names.
