The place
Midnight Hotel sits in Braddon, the inner-north Canberra district that has become the city's dining and nightlife strip a short walk from the CBD and Lake Burley Griffin. The hotel anchors a mixed-use precinct developed by Geocon, putting guests among the neighborhood's independent cafes and bars rather than in the more institutional government quarter most Canberra hotels occupy.
The concept
Midnight Hotel was Marriott's first property in Canberra, opened by Iconic Hotels, the hospitality arm of local developer Geocon, under the Autograph Collection banner. Melbourne-based architecture firm Fender Katsalidis designed the new-build around a landscaped central garden atrium, organizing six room categories over guest floors wrapped around that courtyard. Each of the 199 rooms carries a commissioned artwork, part of a deliberately gallery-like, design-forward positioning aimed at travelers who want a boutique alternative to Canberra's chain-hotel-heavy, government-and-conference-driven market.
Dining & wellness
The hotel houses Midnight Bar, an Italian-leaning restaurant and cocktail bar, alongside Braddon Merchant, a separate all-day restaurant with a European-influenced, seasonal menu. Wellness facilities include an indoor pool, sauna and gym, plus meeting and event space serving Canberra's convention trade.
