JW Marriott's Detroit debut is a 601-room, 25-story tower rising on the site of the demolished Joe Louis Arena, directly connected to Huntington Place convention center by skybridge. Neumann/Smith Architecture and interior designer Jim Looney of Looney & Associates have built the project around river views and a completion date deliberately set ahead of Detroit's 2027 Men's NCAA Final Four.

The place
On Detroit's riverfront at the former Joe Louis Arena site, directly skybridge-linked to Huntington Place convention center and within the downtown core.
The concept
Rising 25 stories above the Water Square development, the hotel replaces an arena demolished in 2021 with a mixed-use riverfront district; floor-to-ceiling windows in every room frame the Detroit River, the Ambassador and Gordie Howe bridges, and the skyline. Completion is timed to precede Detroit's hosting of the 2027 Men's NCAA Final Four.
Dining & wellness
A JW Executive Lounge, full-service Spa by JW, fitness center and a 50-foot indoor lap pool, alongside more than 53,000 square feet of meeting and event space. Specific restaurant and bar concepts have not yet been named.
