AC Hotel Detroit at the Bonstelle

AC Hotel Detroit at the Bonstelle opened in January 2025 in Brush Park, combining a newly built 154-room tower with the restoration of the historic 1903 Bonstelle Theatre next door. It is the first hotel to operate on the site, linked to the landmark playhouse via a glass conservatory that houses the hotel's main restaurant and bar.

The place

The hotel stands on Woodward Avenue near Mack Avenue in Brush Park, its new 10-story tower physically linked by a glass-enclosed conservatory to the restored 1903 Bonstelle Theatre, originally designed by Albert Kahn as a synagogue and later remodeled as a C. Howard Crane playhouse.

The concept

AC Hotel Detroit at the Bonstelle opened to guests in January 2025 as a newly constructed 154-room tower paired with the roughly $7-10 million restoration of the adjacent, long-dormant Bonstelle Playhouse — a separate but related project from the hotel's own $49 million build. It is the first hotel operation on the site, with Stantec handling architecture and Patrick Thompson Design bringing AC's clean, European-inspired aesthetic to the rooms and public spaces. The project threads new construction and historic preservation together via the glass Conservatory connector, giving the AC brand's minimalist template a genuine landmark backdrop in Brush Park, one of Detroit's fastest-redeveloping residential districts.

Dining & wellness

The Conservatory, a glass-enclosed lobby bar and restaurant between hotel and theater, serves gin-based cocktails and Spanish small plates; additional amenities include a rooftop bar, European-style breakfast, a fitness center and event space inside the restored theater.
