Avani Queenstown

Minor Hotels is converting its lakefront Oaks Shores Resort on Queenstown's Frankton Road into Avani Queenstown, opening September 2026 as the brand's New Zealand flagship. The project swaps a serviced-apartment format for a full-service hotel, anchored by the all-day Six to Midnight restaurant. Room count and interior design credits have not yet been made public.

On Frankton Road, directly on the shore of Lake Wakatipu, a short drive from central Queenstown.

The concept

Avani Queenstown is the rebrand and repositioning of the former Oaks Shores Resort, converting a serviced-apartment property into a full-service lifestyle hotel. It is Minor Hotels' New Zealand flagship for the Avani brand and its second Avani property in the country, after Avani Metropolis Auckland Residences. The transformation brings clean-lined interiors, locally inspired finishes and a full suite of hotel services to a site that previously operated as self-contained apartments.

Dining & wellness

The hotel centers on Six to Midnight, an all-day dining venue moving from breakfast and lunch through high tea and après-ski drinks to an evening à la carte menu built on local and seasonal New Zealand produce. Specific bar concepts beyond this venue have not been detailed publicly.
