A new eight-story guestroom tower rises behind the landmark Second Empire depot building.
The concept Athens Group and Marriott spent years turning the long-dormant Union Pacific passenger station into the city's most ambitious adaptive-reuse hotel project. The original Grand Hall, terrazzo floors and Utah-themed murals were restored rather than replaced, and 13 specialty suites were carved directly into the historic depot building, pairing exposed brick and picture-frame moldings with soaking tubs and subway tile. A contemporary eight-story tower behind the depot holds the balance of the 225 rooms, styled with a vintage-travel palette that nods to the building's railroad past without tipping into pastiche.
This is a first-time hotel conversion of a building that had never operated as lodging, the depot most recently housed The Depot concert venue and sat partly vacant, which is what separates the project from a renovation of an existing hotel. It also anchors a broader push to reactivate The Gateway district alongside the Delta Center and downtown convention business.
Dining & wellness The hotel runs four food-and-beverage outlets: Rouser, a New American restaurant built around an open kitchen; No. 119, a whiskey-focused bar set in the Grand Hall; the more intimate Bar at Asher Adams; and Counterpart, a café for coffee and market fare. There is also roughly 9,600 square feet of meeting space split between the historic hall and the new tower.
Our take The depot's bones do the heavy lifting here: the Grand Hall and restored details are genuinely striking, and the food-and-beverage program is more ambitious than most new-build hotels bother with. Whether the 225-room scale and convention-adjacent location keep it feeling special once the novelty wears off is the open question.

A truly exceptional stay at the Asher Adams
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Asher Adams, and it turned out to be one of the best hotel experiences I've had in a long time. From check-in to check-out, every detail was thoughtfully handled, and I left already looking forward to my next visit.
Let me start with the staff, because they really set the tone for the entire stay. Every person I encountered was excellent — warm, professional, and genuinely attentive. They were quick to help, happy to offer recommendations, and made me feel welcome the moment I walked through the door. That kind of hospitality is increasingly rare, and it made all the difference.
The hotel itself is gorgeous. It's clean, modern, and beautifully designed, with a real sense of style throughout. Everything felt fresh and well maintained, from the common areas to the rooms. It's the kind of place where you notice the care that went into the details, and it makes the whole experience feel elevated.
The amenities were equally impressive. The gym is fantastic — well equipped and a genuine pleasure to use, not the afterthought you find at so many hotels. And the restaurant was incredible. The food was outstanding, and it's the kind of spot I'd happily return to even if I weren't staying at the hotel. I also absolutely loved the courtyard, which quickly became my favorite place to unwind. It's a beautiful, relaxing space that adds so much to the property.
The location is another major highlight. The hotel sits right next to the Gateway, surrounded by beautiful fountains and plenty of space to walk and explore. Stepping outside for a stroll became one of my favorite parts of each day. Whether you're visiting for business or leisure, you simply couldn't ask for a more convenient and enjoyable setting — there's so much within easy reach.
All in all, the Asher Adams nails everything that matters: outstanding service, a stunning and spotless space, excellent amenities, and an unbeatable location. It's a place that clearly takes pride in getting the details right, and it shows. I can't recommend it highly enough, and I'll absolutely be staying here again.
This was our first time staying here. The hotel was great! We were attending a concert at The Depot next door so the convenience was perfect! The room was really nice. The bathroom was very spacious with a separate toilet and large fully enclosed glass shower. The bathroom also had an automated "nite lights under the sink so you could see at night if needed. The room had a clean carafe for water with filtered water in the hall to fill the carafe. Ice was also located next to the fill station in a operate freezer that was pre potioned bags. a neat touch was the brief history of the location at checking as well complimentary use of the photo booth in the lobby.
Stay for the unique experience – not for a good night’s sleep.
This hotel is beyond stunning and such a cool experience. If you get the chance to stay, absolutely do. You’ll come away with so many wonderful memories and pictures. Highlights were the beautiful lobby bar, the lounge area with the fireplace, our balcony (if you can book a room with one you must), easy access to Gateway’s courtyard, dinner at Rouser (Kennedy was so wonderful), and the views. Our soaking tub and shower were great, and the mattress was also very comfortable. And for those who don’t drink, they do have soda products even though they aren’t listed on any of their menus.
Because of its location and I’m sure the acoustics from Gateway, both sleeps were rough, although for different reasons. Saturday night, we discovered we could hear the heavy base from a nearby club. We called the front desk at midnight who said it could be coming from Flanker’s. When we asked what time they closed, we were told 1 AM. The thumping base (likely due to the St. Patrick’s Day festivities) went until just after 2:30 AM. The following night was thankfully quiet, but we awoke around 8/830 to a gaggle of leaf blowers below. What’s unfortunate is neither situation is the hotel’s fault but still very much impacted how we slept.
This hotel is still absolutely worth checking out (it’s too stunning not too) but bring your earplugs and be prepared for noisy nights on the weekends and maddening mornings on weekdays – with everything else being lovely about your stay.
My wife and I stayed a weekend as part of our 20th anniversary celebration and we had an incredible weekend here! Cleopatra and the team up front were so hospitable. They went above and beyond (with a card and kind gift) to celebrate this milestone with us!
We loved the variety of public spaces on property. We had some good meals, great conversations, and enjoyed the entire property. The Grand Hall was both beautiful and full of life, which was awesome.
Our room was perfect! We received an upgrade to one of the named suites and it is one of the best rooms I've ever stayed in. It was spacious, comfortable, and quiet. We will definitely be back!

Clean rooms, comfortable beds, unique design, and excellent location.
Only thing missing was a Nespresso machine in the room…instead they have a very cool kettle with bags of coffee to steep.
Robes and slippers are comfortable and cozy.
Staff are polite, professional, and not pretentious (Casandra & Eliasib were awesome)!
Elite members can get a $20 voucher (+tx & tip = ~$25) for breakfast at Rouser restaurant in the lobby.
