The place
The site is at 660 6th Avenue SE, along the Jack & Jean Leslie RiverWalk in East Village, the district east of downtown that the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) has been redeveloping for years. CMLC calls it the last of East Village's prime riverfront sites. Truman bought it in 2025.
It will be the neighbourhood's third hotel. Two other projects broke ground in East Village earlier in 2026: Library Square, a 162-unit rental building, and Vibe, a 14-storey mixed-use development.
The concept
Moxy is Marriott's lifestyle brand, built on small rooms and large shared spaces. Tim Reardon, Marriott's regional vice president for Western Canada, describes the formula as "small but smart rooms". Here the shared spaces are a bar and an outdoor thermal spa, both open to guests and to the wider community, plus a fitness area and communal gathering rooms.
Truman is the developer and CMLC and Marriott are partners. Construction was announced on 29 September 2026, with completion expected in 2028. The room count is 131 in the launch coverage; earlier CMLC material gave 132. No architect, interior designer or opening month has been named.
Dining & wellness
The announcement mentions a bar, open to non-guests. No restaurant, operator or chef has been announced, and nothing is published yet about how access to the thermal spa will work for visitors who are not staying.

September 29, 2026: Truman, the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation and Marriott International announced the start of construction of Moxy Calgary East Village at 660 6th Avenue SE. The five-storey hotel will have 131 rooms, a bar and an outdoor thermal spa, both open to guests and the community, and is expected to be completed in 2028. It will be East Village's third hotel and the third project to break ground in the district in 2026, after Library Square and Vibe.
