The Dorian, Autograph Collection opened in downtown Calgary on July 21, 2022, the first new hotel built in the city's core in more than a decade. Developed by the Calgary-based PBA Group and named for Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, the boutique property occupies the upper floors of a 27-storey dual-brand tower it shares with a Courtyard by Marriott. Its 27th-floor restaurant and outdoor patio gave the city a new vantage point over its own skyline.

The place

The hotel stands at 525 5th Avenue SW, on the edge of downtown Calgary between 4th and 5th Streets, in a stretch of the core that had gone without a new hotel build for more than ten years before it arrived. The location places guests within walking distance of the Stephen Avenue retail and dining strip, the Beltline, and Calgary's office and financial district, at a moment when the city was actively courting investment beyond its traditional oil-and-gas base. PBA Group's tower was awarded Calgary's first-ever density bonus permit for design excellence, a signal of how the project was read locally as part of a broader push to reshape the downtown skyline rather than simply add room inventory.

The concept

The Dorian is the debut hospitality project of Patricia Phillips, the Calgary-born CEO of PBA Group, who spent roughly a decade developing the tower before it opened. The design commits fully to its Oscar Wilde conceit: rooms come stocked with a copy of The Picture of Dorian Gray, and the property's interiors and public spaces lean on Victorian-era imagery layered against local Western references, described by the hotel as blending "modern comfort with British whimsy and local flavour." The building is stacked rather than shared floor by floor — Autograph Collection occupies 133 rooms across the tower's upper levels, while a separate 175-room Courtyard by Marriott fills the lower floors, each brand running its own entrance, front desk and identity within the same 308-room, 287,000-square-foot structure. Guest rooms in the Autograph Collection portion range from roughly 350 to nearly 700 square feet, many facing the downtown skyline, and the hotel positions itself as Calgary's first lifestyle property built to serve daytime visitors and event guests as much as overnight stays — its conference space includes ballrooms named after characters from Wilde's novel. Both brands are operated by Concord Hospitality on behalf of PBA Group, and the project has since been recognized with a Michelin Key.

Dining & wellness

Dining centers on The Wilde on 27, a rooftop restaurant and bar on the tower's top floor with an outdoor patio and panoramic views of the Calgary skyline, alongside Lunch on 27, a daytime counterpart serving soups and salads in the same space. At street level, Prologue operates as a café through the morning before shifting into a lounge serving artisanal cocktails and light fare into the evening. The hotel has also run The Magic Table, a themed multi-course dining experience, as part of its food and beverage program. A complimentary fitness center is available to guests; the property does not advertise a spa.
