The place
At 4201 Atlantic Avenue, a brand-new 24-story tower built as the second phase of the Cavalier Resort's $350 million oceanfront expansion, standing beside the restored 1927 Cavalier Hotel and Beach Club.
The concept
The Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront Resort is developer Gold Key | PHR's mid-sized bet within the larger Cavalier Resort master plan: a ground-up 305-room tower built where the resort's parking and event lawn once stood, designed to carry the bulk of the property's room inventory while the restored 1927 Historic Cavalier Hotel next door supplies the history. It opened in June 2020, in the middle of a shut-down travel market, as a $125 million, 24-story building with two restaurants, multiple bars and more than 25,000 square feet of function space — a scale statement in a beach market more used to motor-inns and mid-rise chains. Its role within the resort is largely logistical rather than experiential: it supplies convention-sized meeting space and rooftop dining that the boutique-scaled Historic Cavalier can't offer on its own, while drawing on the older hotel's brand equity and the resort's shared beach club and pools.
Dining & wellness
Orion's Roof, a rooftop restaurant and bar, and Seaside Bar & Grill anchor the dining program, backed by more than 25,000 square feet of banquet and meeting space that make the hotel the resort's conference workhorse.
