Hyatt Place Virginia Beach/Oceanfront

Hyatt Place Virginia Beach/Oceanfront opened in June 2022, a new 13-story, 140-room tower built on the site of the Belvedere Beach Resort, the boardwalk motor lodge it replaced after five decades. The $28 million project, developed by local firm Suburban Capital, works several nods to the demolished Belvedere into its design.

The place

At 36th Street and Atlantic Avenue, directly on the Virginia Beach oceanfront facing the Boardwalk — the exact site of the Belvedere Beach Resort, a 1969 motor lodge demolished in 2020 after Virginia Beach-based Suburban Capital bought the land.

The concept

A ground-up 13-story tower developed by Suburban Capital for $28 million, positioned as a spiritual successor to the beloved Belvedere. Rooms average balconies for all but 27 of the 140 keys, each fitted with a Hyatt Place 'Cozy Corner' sofa bed separating sleep, work and lounge space. The hotel nods to its predecessor throughout: a meeting room named 'The Belvedere,' a pool repositioned on the footprint of the old one, and a bench recalling the honeymoon booth from the original coffee shop.

Dining & wellness

Select-service dining runs through the Breakfast Bar (hot dishes, fresh fruit, oatmeal, Greek yogurt), The Market for meals prepared around the clock, and The Bar for coffee, beer, wine and cocktails including local brews. A 10th-floor patio and the lobby both look straight out over the beach, with valet service and a 24-hour gym.
