Hyatt Centric Downtown Sacramento
A century-old jazz landmark, reborn as downtown Sacramento's arena-district lifestyle hotel.
Open · October 2021
Opened in October 2021 on the bones of the century-old Hotel Marshall, the Hyatt Centric Downtown Sacramento reworked a fabled jazz-era address into a 172-room lifestyle hotel steps from Golden 1 Center. Its design leans hard into the building's musical past, from the rooftop Clayton Club to murals of the acts that once played there.

The place
Located at 1122 7th Street in the heart of downtown Sacramento, right next to Golden 1 Center and the Downtown Commons (DOCO) entertainment district, on the site of the historic Hotel Marshall, which had stood closed since 2015.
The concept
The Hyatt Centric occupies the site of the 1911 Hotel Clayton, later renamed Hotel Marshall, a fixture of Sacramento's jazz-era nightlife through the 1920s-50s before falling into disrepair and eventually closing in 2015. Hyatt's redevelopment preserved two of the building's original street facades while rebuilding the interior as a new 172-room lifestyle hotel, and threads the site's musical history through the design: amplifiers stacked behind the front desk, hand-painted murals of jazz musicians inside guestroom closets, and light fixtures inspired by recording studios. It's an adaptive-reuse project done with real narrative intent rather than as a box-ticking preservation exercise, and its location next to Golden 1 Center places it at the center of downtown Sacramento's biggest post-2016 redevelopment push.
Dining & wellness
The sixth-floor Clayton Club rooftop lounge serves craft cocktails and small plates with skyline views, while the ground-floor 7th Street Standard restaurant covers dinner and weekend brunch with an American menu. The hotel also has roughly 2,000 square feet of meeting space and a fitness center.
