Opened in March 2024, the AC Hotel Sacramento replaced a downtown surface parking lot with a 179-room, eight-story tower a block from Golden 1 Center, a build so complicated by unstable soil that its foundation required concrete columns driven 70 feet underground. AXIS Architecture + Design gave it a shimmering copper-panel exterior and almond-inspired interior details.

The place

Built on a former surface parking lot at the corner of 7th and I Streets in downtown Sacramento, next to a Sacramento Regional Transit light-rail station and about a block from Golden 1 Center.

The concept

The AC Hotel Sacramento is genuinely new construction: an eight-story, 179-room tower engineered on ground so unstable that builders had to drive concrete columns 70 feet down to support the foundation, along with an underground driveway and valet level. Designed by AXIS Architecture + Design with Baskervill on interiors, the exterior wraps in tessellated, copper-toned metal panels that shift with the light, while interiors draw on Sacramento's agricultural history — the almond, specifically — for texture and detail. It's a more considered design brief than the AC brand's usual European-minimalist template gets outside flagship markets, and the project was significant enough locally to win a 2025 CoStar Impact Award for the Sacramento market.

Dining & wellness

The hotel has roughly 3,500 square feet of lobby and dining space, including a lobby bar/lounge and buffet dining, plus meeting rooms and a fitness center. Specific outlet branding was not part of the verified material.
