New hotels in Wynwood, Miami
Miami's former garment and warehouse district, now a mural destination around Wynwood Walls, with Moxy Miami Wynwood open since October 2024 and Hyatt Centric Wynwood planned on NW 28th Street.

Now open in Wynwood
Coming soon in Wynwood
Wynwood was a garment and warehouse district before it was a place to stay. Puerto Rican families settled here after the Second World War, enough that the neighborhood picked up the nickname Little Puerto Rico, and the manufacturers left in the following decades, leaving rows of windowless buildings. Artists and small galleries moved into the cheap space from the early 1990s. The developer Tony Goldman bought up blocks of warehouses in the early 2000s and in 2009 commissioned the first murals at Wynwood Walls, which still anchors the district at 2516 NW 2nd Avenue.
For a hotel guide that history matters for one practical reason: for most of the last fifteen years nobody slept here. Visitors came for the afternoon and went back to Brickell, Downtown or South Beach for the night. The two hotels we follow in Wynwood, one open and one still on paper, are the first attempts to change that habit.
Where the hotels sit
Wynwood has no tidy edges, but the murals concentrate between NW 20th and NW 29th Streets, from NW 5th Avenue across to North Miami Avenue. About a mile and a half separates the district from Downtown. The two hotels fall inside that rectangle, three blocks apart on the north-south axis.
Moxy Miami Wynwood
Moxy Miami Wynwood opened in October 2024 at 255 NW 25th Street, next door to the Walls. It is an eight-story ground-up building with 120 rooms, which the operator lists at between 211 and 592 square feet across five configurations. The architecture is by Kobi Karp, the Miami firm, and the interiors, including those of the restaurants, are by iCrave of New York. Baywood Hotels and Dolphin Capital Partners own it in a 50/50 joint venture.
The lobby is on the second floor and the check-in desk doubles as a bar. Guests get a welcome cocktail, bike rentals are free, and so is admission to Wynwood Walls, which saves a ticket on the one thing most people come to see. Rates start around $100 a night.
Food at the property has changed since opening. Noble 33, the hospitality group behind it, runs Sparrow Italia at street level. Upstairs, the seventh-floor Tulum-style restaurant Casa Madera opened in December 2024 and closed within a year. A New York steakhouse, Brooklyn Chop House, was announced for the same space.
Hyatt Centric Wynwood
Hyatt Centric Wynwood is planned at 160 NW 28th Street, two blocks north of the Walls, an eight-story building with 116 rooms, six of them one-bedroom suites. Robert Finvarb Companies is developing it with The Restaurant People, and MIA Hospitality Management, a new company led by Robert Finvarb and Brian Vujnovic, would operate it.
The program as announced in January 2026 includes a ground-floor restaurant of about 5,900 square feet, a rooftop pool and bar, a 3,000-square-foot rooftop lounge and about 2,000 square feet of meeting space. The Restaurant People would run all food and beverage. The developers describe it as the neighborhood's first full-service branded lifestyle hotel with traditionally sized rooms. Construction was expected to start in spring 2026 and the announcement gave late 2028 for the opening; other reports range from 2027. We have no confirmed groundbreaking, so the listing keeps the date as to be confirmed.
Getting around
There is no Metrorail station in Wynwood. The nearest are Historic Overtown/Lyric Theatre on the Orange Line and Culmer on the Green Line, about a mile and a half south, and from either you change to Metrobus Route 2, which runs up NW 2nd Avenue. The free City of Miami Trolley also stops on NW 2nd Avenue, Monday to Saturday. Freebee, a free ride service, operates inside the district and links to the Metromover at 15th Street in Brickell.
Rideshare is the common answer. Driving is awkward on weekends: the Wynwood Garage at 311 NW 26th Street is covered and open round the clock, at roughly $20 to $40 depending on length of stay and more on event days. Street meters are paid by phone. The second Saturday of each month is the Art Walk, and the streets clog by late afternoon.
What to do
Start with the Walls. The park is open daily from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm, with doors closing half an hour earlier, and timed tickets are sold in advance. Inside are the murals, some activated through augmented reality, a shop, a restaurant and gallery exhibitions. The mural blocks outside the park are free and keep changing; walls are repainted, so a photograph from two years ago will not match what is there. The Museum of Graffiti has material going back to the early 1970s, and the Margulies Collection at the Warehouse, a private collector's photography, video, sculpture and installation work, is the other name on the gallery side. Galleries are less numerous than they were in the 1990s and 2000s, and the murals, shops and restaurants carry most of the day now.
Panther Coffee holds a monthly music series on its patio, on the third Thursday through December. Cerveceria La Tropical brews on site. Mayami Wynwood is known for its Wong Tong tacos, and 1-800-LUCKY is listed among the stops for a night out. Mana Wynwood, a 100,000-square-foot convention hall, hosts the III Points festival in October. Midline, a 1,200-capacity music room inside Arlo Wynwood, opened in January 2026. A retail corridor along NW 29th Street at Wynwood Plaza is adding five ground-floor tenants this year.
Neighboring areas
The Miami Design District is a short drive north and the place for showrooms and luxury retail. Downtown Miami and Brickell carry the larger hotel stock and the rail connections. South Beach lies across the causeways, 15 to 20 minutes by rideshare when traffic cooperates. For the overview of the whole city, see Miami.
Which hotel for your trip
Staying at the Moxy puts you within a block or two of the Walls and the garage, with a free ticket to the park. It suits short trips built around the district, at a price well below Brickell or the beach. The lobby bar is on the second floor and doubles as check-in, so the social room is also the front desk.
The Hyatt Centric is the one to watch for travelers who want a pool and a full-service restaurant in the neighborhood, but there is nothing to book yet and the opening is, at best, two years out.
