Wyndham Garden Winnipeg Airport (Odé Aki)

Odé Aki, operating as Wyndham Garden Winnipeg Airport, opened in October 2022 as the first Indigenous-owned hotel in the Wyndham Garden brand and the first hotel built on an urban reserve in Winnipeg. Owned by Long Plain First Nation and designed by f-BLOK architecture, the 132-room property near Polo Park weaves Anishinaabe language and culture into its restaurant, café and meeting spaces rather than treating them as an afterthought.

The place

On the Long Plain Madison urban reserve at 460 Madison Street, near Winnipeg's Polo Park shopping district and a short drive from the airport — land held by Long Plain First Nation under Treaty 1.

The concept

Odé Aki, operating under the Wyndham Garden flag, is the first Indigenous-owned hotel in the Wyndham Garden portfolio and, per its developers, the first hotel built on an urban reserve in Winnipeg. The custom 132-room building was designed by f-BLOK architecture and built by PCL Construction for owner Long Plain First Nation, with day-to-day operations run by Sparrow Hotels. Indigenous identity is built into the property rather than applied as decoration: a dedicated Knowledge Keepers meeting room sits within roughly 5,800 square feet of flexible event space, and both of the hotel's food and beverage outlets carry Anishinaabemowin names. Long Plain First Nation has described the hotel as the largest development it has completed to date.

Dining & wellness

The hotel houses the Manoomin Restaurant, serving a blend of contemporary dishes made with fresh, local ingredients, and the Onishkaan Café for coffee, espresso and pastries, alongside an indoor pool with a waterslide and a 24-hour fitness centre.
