July 16, 2026 — A report to Winnipeg city council revealed that the long-delayed Sutton Place Hotel at True North Square is now expected to be completed in 2028, not the previously targeted Q1 2026 — the project's developer, Northland Properties, had already declined in January 2026 to give any completion date, having paused construction during the pandemic to prioritize its Sandman airport hotel instead. The same council report describes the $140-million project as "the largest new luxury hotel built in Winnipeg in decades," and city council separately voted to contribute a $2-million grant plus $1 million in future hotel tax revenue toward a $6-million skywalk connecting the hotel to the RBC Convention Centre, contingent on matching provincial funding.
