Alt Hotel Winnipeg opened in April 2015 as the anchor of Centrepoint, a $100 million mixed-use development that brought downtown Winnipeg its first newly built hotel in decades. The 160-room, 20-storey tower, Group Germain's first Alt Hotel in western Canada, sits across from the city's main arena in the Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment District.
The hotel stands at the corner of Portage Avenue and Donald Street in downtown Winnipeg's Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment District (SHED), directly across from the arena now known as Canada Life Centre: a stretch of downtown that had not seen a new hotel built in decades.
The concept
Alt Hotel Winnipeg is the centrepiece of Centrepoint, a roughly $100 million mixed-use development built by a partnership of Artis REIT, Longboat Development, Group Germain Hotels and Urban Capital, designed by Lemay Michaud Architecture Design with Stantec Architecture. The hotel began operating on 16 April 2015 and held its official opening on 30 April 2015, becoming the first Alt Hotel, Group Germain's upscale select-service brand, anywhere in Canada's western provinces.
The 20-storey, 160-room tower follows Alt's standard formula of pared-back, design-forward rooms rather than a full-service luxury offer, aimed at business and event-arena traffic in a downtown district that city officials had spent years trying to reactivate outside office hours.
Dining & wellness
The hotel has a fully equipped fitness room, seven meeting spaces totalling roughly 5,000 square feet, a creative lounge, and a lobby snack counter with gourmet coffee service; restaurants and a coffee shop are accessible directly from the lobby.
