The place
The Study at Johns Hopkins sits at the corner of 33rd and North Charles Street in Charles Village, directly across from the main gate of Johns Hopkins University's Homewood Campus in north Baltimore.
The concept
The $26 million hotel is a conversion of the century-old Blackstone Apartments, which Johns Hopkins had used for student housing since 2006 and which had never previously operated as a hotel. Philadelphia firm DIGSAU led the architectural transformation, restoring the historic façade while 15 Moreland Design Studio handled interiors that nod to Baltimore Harbor with navy and rust tones. It is the seventh property in the Study Hotels portfolio, a small collection of academic-affiliated boutique hotels also found at Yale, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Chicago, and it is the first and only hotel located directly on the Homewood Campus.
Dining & wellness
Dear Charles, the hotel's ground-floor restaurant, serves mid-Atlantic cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, with seating for up to 85 and dishes such as crab Benedict and short rib gnocchi; a public living room with a lower-level tavern rounds out the amenities.
