The place

612 Cathedral Street, in Baltimore's Mount Vernon Historic District, next to the Washington Monument and the Walters Art Museum.

The concept

The 1928 building operated for decades as the Peabody Court Hotel before a brief run under a Clarion/Wyndham flag. New ownership bought and reopened it in 2018 as Hotel Revival under Joie de Vivre Hospitality's independent boutique format: the building's history as a hotel predates this reopening, and is told honestly rather than presented as a new construction. The 107 rooms mix Arts and Crafts-inflected American design with contemporary touches, and public spaces throughout the hotel are filled with local art.

Dining & wellness

Square Meal, a farm-inspired market and restaurant, serves breakfast through dinner with cold-press juices by day and cocktails after dark. Topside, the rooftop bar, serves Chesapeake Bay seafood and Maryland craft beer with views over Mount Vernon, alongside B-Side, a karaoke bar with a full bar and private rooms.
