Canopy by Hilton Baltimore Harbor Point

Canopy by Hilton Baltimore Harbor Point opened on 22 October 2020 at 1215 Wills Street. It has 156 rooms on the top four floors of Wills Wharf, a mixed-use building in the Harbor Point district, and each room has floor-to-ceiling views of the skyline and the waterfront. Donohoe Hospitality Services manages the hotel.

The place

Wills Wharf stands in Harbor Point, on the Baltimore waterfront, close to the Inner Harbor, Fells Point and Harbor East. The Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park is a short walk away, and the Baltimore Water Taxi runs from a nearby stop.

BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport and Penn Station are the usual arrival points for visitors from outside the city. Harbor Point was still filling in around the hotel when it opened.

The concept

The hotel takes the upper floors of the building, which leaves the lower levels to other uses. Canopy Central, on the ninth floor, is the shared space, with lounge seating, a work area and a large terrace.

Canopy sets itself apart within Hilton by leaning on local colour. Here the design draws on Baltimore's industrial and nautical past, and the public areas hold work by local artists. A mural by the Baltimore artists Jesse and Katey covers a wall of the 24-hour fitness studio, which looks over the harbor.

Rooms use the brand's canopy-style bed frame. Each has a 55-inch television, a desk, a built-in refrigerator, a Nespresso machine, APIVITA bath products and a mattress with a ZoneActive topper and Serta Cool Balance technology. Eight suites have larger layouts. Water refill stations are placed on each floor.

Among the services, bikes are available on request, check-in is contactless with a digital key through the Hilton Honors app, and a partnership with BARK provides dog-friendly extras.

For meetings, there are about 4,000 square feet of flexible space: a boardroom, two meeting rooms, private restaurant space and an outdoor terrace, for up to 100 people.

Dining & wellness

The signature restaurant comes from Tony Foreman and Cindy Wolf of Foreman Wolf, the Baltimore restaurant group, with indoor and outdoor seating, a wine list and a cocktail menu. Hilton's opening announcement does not describe a separate bar.

The terrace on the ninth floor and the lounge seating of Canopy Central give guests places to sit with a drink away from their rooms.
