The place

176 Concord Street, on the Cooper River waterfront between Waterfront Park and Union Pier, at the edge of Charleston's historic French Quarter.

The concept

The Cooper is a ground-up hotel on the eastern waterfront of the Charleston peninsula, and the first hotel in downtown Charleston to sit directly on the water. It opened to guests on March 30, 2026, after roughly six years of construction and three postponed opening dates. Champalimaud Design handled the interiors, aiming for a contemporary reading of Charleston's historic architecture. Of the 191 rooms, 25 are suites.

The resort side is as important as the beds: an infinity pool with cabanas and daybeds, a 7,000-square-foot spa with red-light therapy, cryotherapy lounges and a sauna, a fitness centre, more than 20,000 square feet of event space and a private marina with a fleet of charter boats. Beemok Hospitality Collection operates the hotel.

Dining & wellness

The Crossing, a Mediterranean signature restaurant, opened with the hotel. CurrentBurger and Cooper Coffee and Wine, both open to the public, were slated to follow in spring 2026, along with Bar Marti, a poolside bar reserved for hotel guests.
