The Ritz-Carlton, Portland opened downtown in November 2023 as the brand's first Pacific Northwest property, occupying the lower floors of a 35-story tower whose height was itself a local controversy before a single guest checked in. With a 20th-floor restaurant, an infinity pool, and a Forbes Four-Star rating, it's the clearest bid yet for a true luxury standard in the city.

The place

The hotel occupies the lower floors of a 35-story mixed-use tower at 900 SW Washington Street in downtown Portland, topped by 138 residential units, with rooms looking out over the city skyline and the Cascade Range.

The concept

This is the first Ritz-Carlton in the Pacific Northwest, and the brand leaned into that: ROAM Interior Design and GBD Architects built the interiors around a Pacific Northwest palette of calm colors, natural materials, and floor-to-ceiling glass rather than a generic luxury template. The tower itself was a genuine local flashpoint before it opened, since its height required a zoning exception that made it briefly the tallest building on the West Coast outside a handful of major cities — a detail that shaped as much local coverage as the hotel's amenities did. Since opening, the property has picked up real third-party recognition rather than just marketing claims: a Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star rating and, in 2025, Condé Nast Traveler's number-one hotel in Oregon. For a city that had gone years without a true five-star product downtown, it filled a specific gap.

Dining & wellness

Bellpine, on the 20th floor, serves Mexican-inspired Pacific Northwest cuisine alongside Bellpine Bar; Meadowrue is a Japanese-inspired bar and lounge built around a 12-course omakase menu and cocktail program. The spa includes eucalyptus steam rooms, saunas, and snow showers, and the 19th-floor infinity pool and 4,000-square-foot fitness center round out a genuinely full-service wellness offer, not just a token gym.
