Muir, Autograph Collection

Muir, Autograph Collection opened on December 10, 2021 at 1709 Lower Water Street, on the Halifax waterfront. It is the first Autograph Collection hotel in Nova Scotia and the anchor of Queen's Marque, a $200 million mixed-use development. Its 109 rooms and suites face the harbour, and the building was developed and is operated by the Armour Group.

The place

Queen's Marque is a $200 million mixed-use development on Halifax's historic waterfront. The hotel shares it with offices, shops, restaurants and residences, and nearly every room has a water view.

Downtown Halifax and the rest of the waterfront are within walking distance.

The concept

The architect is MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple, a Nova Scotia practice, and the interiors are by Studio Munge of Toronto, led by Alessandro Munge. The design brief was titled "Born of this Place". Materials include local salt-and-pepper granite, sandstone, Muntz metal and curved white oak walls.

Rooms range from kings of 379 to 497 square feet to Deluxe Kings of up to 672 square feet. Junior Suites run from 629 to 652 square feet, and the Shannon Suites from 710 to 804. The Thrumcap Suite measures 1,015 square feet. At the top is The Watch Suite, 2,075 square feet with 270-degree views of the water.

Local artists supplied commissioned landscape paintings, sculptures, photography, ceramics and tapestries. A 1,200-square-foot gallery, True Colours Art, operates on site.

Dining & wellness

Drift is the main restaurant, serving modern versions of Atlantic Canadian dishes. Chef Anthony Walsh leads the kitchen with chef de cuisine Jamie MacAulay.

BKS is a speakeasy open to hotel guests and private events. Windward Wellness, the hotel's spa and fitness area, has a vitality pool, a cold plunge pool, a halotherapy salt room, a sauna, a steam room and yoga and spin studios.
