Moxy Ottawa Downtown

Moxy Ottawa Downtown opened in July 2026 at 126 York Street, tucked behind the retained 1913 façade of the former Major Building warehouse in the ByWard Market. It's Marriott's first Moxy in the Canadian capital and RIMAP Hospitality's second Marriott-branded tower in the neighbourhood, pairing 224 compact, design-led rooms with a bar-as-lobby social concept.

The place

The hotel occupies 126 York Street in the ByWard Market, inside a 22-storey tower built behind the retained façade of the heritage-designated Major Building, a former warehouse dating to 1913. The development, which also adds 350 rental apartments to the block between York and George streets, marks Marriott's Moxy brand's first arrival in Ottawa.

The concept

Moxy Ottawa Downtown is RIMAP Hospitality's second Marriott project in the ByWard Market, and it leans into the brand's usual formula: compact, efficiently designed rooms with motion-activated LED lighting and clever built-in storage, set against industrial-chic public spaces that keep the warehouse's exposed textures in view. The hotel is a genuinely new hospitality operation — the Major Building had no previous hotel use — built inside a heritage shell rather than a heritage hotel conversion, which qualifies it as a new opening rather than a rebrand. Marriott markets Moxy as an 'upscale-casual' brand rather than a budget one, and the Ottawa property follows that positioning: a lively, design-led hotel pitched at younger travellers who want personality and a social lobby over turndown service and a business centre.

Dining & wellness

Moxy Bar doubles as reception, lobby and all-day restaurant, serving breakfast and dinner with handcrafted cocktails and a weekly rotation of DJ nights, games nights and themed events; guests also get an indoor pool, fitness centre and flexible co-working space.
