AC Hotel by Marriott Ottawa Downtown

Opened in April 2025 at 201 Rideau Street, the AC Hotel by Marriott Ottawa Downtown is the first of three new Marriott towers landing in the ByWard Market. Its 159 rooms bring the brand's understated, European-inspired design language to a part of Ottawa long dominated by bigger, blander convention hotels.

The place

The hotel sits at 201 Rideau Street on the edge of the ByWard Market, within walking distance of the Rideau Canal, Parliament Hill, the Rideau Centre and the National Arts Centre. It opened as the first of three new Marriott-branded towers that developer RIMAP Hospitality is building along this stretch of downtown Ottawa.

The concept

AC Hotel by Marriott Ottawa Downtown is a ground-up new build rather than a conversion, and it wears the AC brand's usual playbook: clean lines, a muted palette, and curated contemporary art standing in for the fussier decor of a traditional business hotel. It's a design-forward answer to Ottawa's stock of legacy convention hotels, aimed squarely at travellers who want a boutique feel without boutique unpredictability. The 159-room property is also a bet on the ByWard Market as Ottawa's next hotel corridor: RIMAP has paired it with a Moxy a few blocks away and a Renaissance planned for 2027, all within a short walk of each other. For now it functions as a fairly self-contained business and leisure base, with a pool, sauna, gym, EV charging and five meeting rooms rounding out a compact but complete offer.

Dining & wellness

AC Kitchen serves a European-style breakfast, and the AC Lounge pours craft cocktails alongside tapas-style plates in the evening — the brand's signature 'less but better' approach to on-site dining, backed by a pool, sauna and gym.
