Moxy Asheville

North Carolina's first Moxy opened on Biltmore Avenue in September 2024, a six-story new build from McKibbon Hospitality with a whiskey-focused rooftop bar and a state-record mural. It debuted two weeks before Hurricane Helene struck the region, and its uninterrupted power turned the hotel into an informal community hub during the storm's aftermath.

The place

The hotel sits on Biltmore Avenue in the heart of downtown Asheville, a short walk from Pack Square and the restaurants and galleries of the South Slope brewery district. It shares a block, but not a lobby, with the existing Aloft Asheville Downtown, giving Moxy its own street-level entrance into a city where new construction on this scale is rare.

The concept

Moxy Asheville is North Carolina's first outpost of Marriott's youth-skewing Moxy brand: a six-story, ground-up building developed and owned by McKibbon Equities and run by its sister company, McKibbon Hospitality. The formula is standard Moxy — a living-room lobby with a video wall in place of a front desk, compact but tech-equipped rooms, and check-in handled at the bar — but the local execution leans hard into place, with work from nearly twenty regional artists inside and a building-scale mural by Bruschcan Studios' Scott Allred on the exterior wall. The project opened two weeks before Hurricane Helene tore through western North Carolina in late September 2024. With power and internet intact when much of the city lost both, the hotel became an informal refuge for staff, guests and neighbors in the storm's immediate aftermath — an origin story now inseparable from how Asheville locals talk about the property.

Dining & wellness

Bar Moxy anchors the lobby with a complimentary cocktail, mocktail or coffee at check-in. Above it, the seventh-floor Wildwood Still is run as a distinct destination restaurant and bar, pouring more than 150 whiskeys and bourbons alongside Asian-inflected small plates and Blue Ridge views from its rooftop deck. Guests also share the adjoining Aloft building's splash pool deck and fitness center, and can grab breakfast items from an on-site market.
