Hotel Indigo Leeds

Hotel Indigo Leeds opened in July 2025 in the Cosmopolitan Hotel building on Lower Briggate, which dates to 1890. It is the 20th Hotel Indigo in the United Kingdom and has 107 rooms, a restaurant and bar called Banksia, two meeting rooms and a gym. The building was bought by Belfont Hotels in 2020 and refurbished with the contractor Clegg Construction. Countrywide Hotels runs it under IHG's four-star boutique brand. The opening slipped more than once: early reports pointed to spring, then to mid-July, with a launch event for local business held in September.

The place

The hotel stands at the corner of Lower Briggate and Swinegate, opposite the Malmaison, in the south-east of the city centre. Leeds railway station is a six-minute walk away.

It competes with the Hyatt House and Hyatt Place near the station, both a short distance up the same side of town.

The concept

Interiors are by the London studio Franklin Ellis, and the brief was to tie each room type to a Leeds story. Three themes run through the 107 rooms: board games, textiles and film.

The board-game rooms refer to John Waddington, the Leeds printer whose company made the British edition of Monopoly. The textile rooms nod to the city's cloth and tailoring trades, and the film rooms to the part Leeds played in the early days of cinema and to its nightlife.

The hotel covers around 45,000 square feet. Hotel Indigo is IHG's brand for neighbourhood-led boutique hotels, and local artwork is part of the formula in every city where it operates.

Dining & wellness

Banksia is the hotel's restaurant and bar, with a Mediterranean menu built on small plates and a fire-based kitchen. Craig Rogan is the chef. The hotel also has a gym open around the clock and two meeting rooms.
