The Edinburgh Grand, a Luxury Collection Hotel

The Edinburgh Grand reopened in July 2025 as Scotland's first Luxury Collection hotel, the brand's fourth in the United Kingdom after London, Buckinghamshire and Manchester. The Chris Stewart Group owns and operates it. The building on St Andrew Square was the headquarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland, according to the hotel's general manager, and the hotel has 50 suites with kitchens.

The place

St Andrew Square sits at the east end of Edinburgh's New Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site,. The hotel occupies a neo-classical bank building on the square.

The concept

Chris Stewart Group already ran the building as an all-suite residence. The Luxury Collection reopening was a light refurbishment and repositioning aimed at extended stays and leisure travel, not a rebuild. Phase one, finished in July 2025, upgraded 33 rooms, the foyer, the executive lounge, retail space, the gym and The Register Club. A second phase, due later in 2025, was to finish the remaining rooms and add a new spa.

The suites are one, two and three bedrooms, each with a full kitchen and a living area. Original details survive in the public rooms: dark wood paneling, fireplaces, brass hardware and sweeping staircases.

Sources differ on the building's origin. The hotel's general manager, Emre Pasli, speaks of its history as the Royal Bank of Scotland's headquarters, while a British Airways listing calls it the National Bank of Scotland's. One source dates the building to 1942.

Dining & wellness

Hawksmoor Edinburgh, the steak and seafood restaurant, occupies the old banking halls and serves Scottish beef. Lady Libertine is a two-level café-bar with live music.

The Vault uses the former bank vaults for whisky tastings and private events, and The Register Club was refreshed in the first phase. The spa, set in the vaults according to earlier announcements, offers facials and body treatments from £115.
