AZUR Legacy Collection Hotel

AZUR Legacy Collection Hotel opened in August 2023 on West Pender Street in downtown Vancouver, a 104-room Art Deco-inspired property from local operator Executive Hotels. Founded by Farida Sayani alongside three generations of the Sayani family, it brought a new independent luxury boutique to a market long dominated by international brands, and has since joined Leading Hotels of the World.

The place

The hotel sits at 833 West Pender Street, in the financial and fashion districts of downtown Vancouver, within walking distance of Coal Harbour, Canada Place and Stanley Park. It occupies the lower floors of a newly built 13-storey tower, giving it a compact urban footprint rather than a sprawling resort-style base. The address puts guests close to the city's business core and cruise terminal while remaining a short walk from the waterfront and the West End, making the hotel workable for both corporate travel and leisure stays. It is also a rare independent, family-run addition to a downtown hotel scene where most new supply arrives under international flags.

The concept

AZUR is operated by Executive Hotels, the Vancouver hospitality group founded more than three decades ago by Farida and Noordin Sayani, with the property developed and run as an independent project led by Farida Sayani together with her daughter Sofia. The 104-room hotel, including two penthouse-level suites, leans into an Art Deco identity inspired by 1940s design: a black-and-white marble lobby, brass fixtures and entry doors, inlaid marble floors, plush custom carpeting and curated artwork from local and international artists. Guest rooms carry the same materials through to the bathrooms, with marble finishes, heated floors, illuminated mirrors and soaker tubs. The positioning is luxury boutique rather than big-box international, aimed at travellers seeking a smaller, design-driven alternative to the branded towers that dominate downtown Vancouver. The two signature suites, Blue Diamond and Opal, add gas fireplaces and private patios at the top of the building. In 2023 the hotel became the first and only property in Western Canada to join Leading Hotels of the World, a marker of the ambitions behind an independently financed newcomer entering a market where scale operators are the norm.

Dining & wellness

The hotel houses two dining venues built around its Art Deco styling. Dahlia Restaurant, off the lobby, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a menu spanning world cuisines and a street-side patio. On the 14th floor, Lavantine Rooftop Restaurant is billed as Vancouver's first purpose-built, garden-style rooftop dining room, serving Levantine-inspired fare with West Coast touches and panoramic views over downtown and the North Shore Mountains. An adjacent Skybar serves cocktails alongside it, with outdoor seating that expands seasonally.
