Hollywood centers on the Hollywood & Vine intersection, where the film industry's original studio backlots gave way over the past century to office towers, apartments and a tourist economy built around the Walk of Fame and the TCL Chinese Theatre. Three hotels we track opened within a few months of each other in 2021 — Thompson Hollywood and Hollywood Volume, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, share a stretch near Sunset Boulevard that hospitality press calls the Vinyl District, while The Godfrey Hotel Hollywood sits one block north on Cahuenga Boulevard.

What to do in Hollywood

For a weekend

Walk the Hollywood Walk of Fame from Vine Street west past the TCL Chinese Theatre and the Dolby Theatre, then head up Highland Avenue toward Runyon Canyon for a late-afternoon hike with skyline views back over the basin. In the evening, the Pantages Theatre and the Capitol Records Building are both within a few minutes' walk of Vine Street.

For a longer stay

With more time, Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood Bowl are a short drive from Hollywood & Vine, and Universal Studios is close enough for a half-day visit without leaving the area entirely. The Sunset Strip's clubs and restaurants are a short drive west, in West Hollywood.

Where to stay in Hollywood

Hollywood & Vine

The corner itself, where entertainment-industry offices — Netflix, Live Nation, Fender — cluster alongside the tourist landmarks. The Godfrey Hotel Hollywood sits one block south on Cahuenga Boulevard, the Godfrey brand's first West Coast property, while Thompson Hollywood is a new-build 11-story tower directly at Hollywood and Vine.

The Vinyl District

The blocks near Sunset Boulevard named by hospitality press for the record stores and music history embedded in the neighborhood. Hollywood Volume, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, opened here in December 2021 alongside a handful of other new hotels and restaurants, deliberately built to draw Angelenos as well as visitors.

Design-focused and nightlife travelers

Hollywood Volume's Vinyl District setting and The Godfrey Hotel Hollywood's Cahuenga Boulevard address both put the Sunset Strip's nightlife within easy reach without staying on the Strip itself.
