The concept Originally opened in July 2020 as The Tuxon, a Marriott Design Hotels property, the hotel was rebranded to IHG's voco flag in a 90-day transition completed in August 2024 by operator Aligned Hospitality Management — voco's 71st hotel globally. The Desert Modernist design nods to Tucson's motor-lodge roots and cattle-ranching and mining history through brass, stone and saddled-leather details.

Our take A brand-flag swap more than a renovation — the actual hotel (its 2020 Design Hotels bones) is unchanged, so the real story here is IHG's soft-brand voco absorbing an existing well-regarded independent rather than a new property.

Stayed in the Tuxon earlier this month for an impromptu trip to Tucson! The staff at the Tuxon were so friendly. Check-in was easy, the pool was great, and our room was small but perfectly adequate. Our room was freshened up 3 out of the 4 days we were there which was appreciated. The garden at the back of the property was stunning. We sat out there every night and watched the wild rabbits hop around.
The immediate area is nothing spectacular, but there's nothing close enough to walk to anyways. We rented a car for our trip and were very close to everything. The security gate after hours adds an extra layer of security, but the surrounding streets are quiet and residential. Tucson is a city, so expect to see unhoused people just like any other city.
A word of advice for light sleepers like me: bring earplugs. The doors have an automatic close and can be loud when closing. My sister and our friend who also stayed here didn't have any problems being woken up but light sleepers may if sleeping in.

Interior aesthetic was economic, but not stereotypical. Solid decor. Love the bar & pool area.
Cleanliness, best I've seen since I was in Japan.
Freeway noise, not an issue (surprisingly)
Party vibe was absolutely a vibe. If you are down to chill, great spot.
----The Bad / needs a minor tweak
Sleeping in the daytime is virtually impossible if you have one of the interior doors facing the pool if there is a party or DJ. If this is you, definitely request a room on the outside edge
Parking, especially at night time is a little bit tough. You won't necessarily have to leave the property or anything crazy, but you might have to park somewhere and walk around a little bit. Nothing more than 100 m though
The lgbtqia+ decor was a bit much & literally everywhere. I actually had to ask chatgpt if this specifically was a g-hotel just in case I was out of touch.
I am a hint sensitive to consistent, annoying sounds such as tapping. In the room I was staying in, there was a consistent frayed connection or transistor jumping type electrical sound coming from either a device or the wall itself through the night. It turned off by morning
----The ugly
This isn't necessarily the fault of the management staff, or anything they can help at this point, but the wall thickness is similar to a sheet of wax paper. You can consistently hear the TV or relational activities of your neighbors, day or night. You can hear the freeway but it's a very light noise and if the air conditioning is turned on, it is immediately drowned out.
Although I absolutely am a party type, my wife is not and she was not a fan of the drunk clubgoers arriving between 1:00 and 5:00, arguing in the parking lot, slamming doors and pretty much having no regard for anyone around them. I think a roaming security could've prevented this.
I called on Friday 12 June and requested a microwave for my room. When I checked in, the microwave was not there. I called the front desk twice (a little over an hour between calls) and one of the front desk agents came with the microwave.
During that time, there was a Pride event taking place. The hotel was decorated nicely, the DJ had amazing music playing and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. It is nice to see local businesses supporting the LGTBQ+ community. Kudos to Tuxon by Voco for stepping up with the support of the LGTBQ+ community.
A crazy retro motel / hotel that has been nicely updated. Sitting right next to the interstate seems a bit ominous, but if you didn't know, you wouldn't know. Breakfast was tasty and filling, the staff was great and friendly and the overall vibe was way cool! Definitely a place, we would stay again while in Tucson.
Tom “tdaddy” Barrett · 5/5 This was a nice little hotel for a decent price. Stayed here while visiting the gem and mineral show. Location was very convenient for that. Staff was nice. There is food for purchase, so no gratuitous breakfast is included. Room was a bit small but modern and clean. The pool was nice looking but I didn't jump in. Landscape was gorgeous, and included a large, open area out back that you could walk around in or have a seat at a picnic table. Overall, a pleasant place to stay.
