The Trade, Autograph Collection

The Trade is the first ground-up hotel to rise in Milwaukee's Deer District, built on the site of the old Bradley Center and opened in May 2023 as a 207-room Autograph Collection property. Its industrial design vocabulary — Cream City brick, exposed metal, a bridge-shaped staircase — makes a deliberate case for Milwaukee's working-class history in a neighborhood otherwise defined by the Bucks' arena.

The place

The Trade sits directly in the Deer District at the north end of downtown Milwaukee, on West Juneau Avenue steps from Fiserv Forum, the Milwaukee Bucks' arena. It is a wholly new building — construction broke ground in September 2021 on land freed up after the old Bradley Center was demolished, and the hotel topped off in July 2022 before opening in May 2023.

The concept

The Trade is Marriott's Autograph Collection entry into a neighborhood that, until recently, had no upscale lodging of its own — everything clustered around the arena was built to serve Bucks game nights, not a genuine city hotel. The design leans hard into an industrial, blue-collar narrative: the name and the interiors are built around the traders and tradesmen who built Milwaukee, with heavy use of exposed metal, Cream City brick accent walls on every floor, and a lobby staircase shaped to echo the Hoan Bridge that arcs over the harbor. At 207 rooms it is sized for both conventions and sports travel, with a large second-floor ballroom, an 'MVP floor' pitched at visiting athletes and teams, and suites built for groups. It is the first genuinely new hotel building downtown Milwaukee has seen in years, rather than another rebrand of an existing tower.

Dining & wellness

Il Cervo, an Italian rooftop restaurant, anchors the top of the hotel with skyline views; a second restaurant operates at ground level, and the property also runs a full-service bar tied to its ballroom and event spaces.
