The place

On Ghuznee Street in Te Aro, Wellington's inner-city creative and hospitality district, a short walk from Cuba Street.

The concept

The Intrepid occupies the 1909 former office and warehouse building of the Cadbury Chocolate company, converted into an 18-room luxury boutique hotel after a three-year refurbishment that included seismic strengthening — the building's first use as a hotel, not a rebrand of an existing one. The 18 rooms are spread across three floors and split between three configurations — Precious (queen), Baker Street (king) and Mighty (super king) — furnished with in-room complimentary drinks and snacks.

Dining & wellness

Puffin, a wine bar and wine shop on the ground floor of the same building, occupies the hotel's original grand tiled entrance with velvet booths and colourful decor; it functions as the property's main food-and-beverage venue.
