Sandman Signature Sheffield Quays Hotel

Sandman Signature Sheffield Quays Hotel relaunched in 2025 after an 18-month renovation of the former Best Western Plus Sheffield Quays, on the three-acre Victoria Quays site Canadian owner Northland Properties bought in 2022. It's Sandman Hotel Group's fifth UK hotel and its first in Sheffield, with all 128 existing rooms refurbished, a new restaurant in the building's restored Victorian arches, and a further 32 rooms due by summer 2026.

The place

Victoria Quays, Sheffield, a six-storey building set above restored Grade II-listed 1855 canal arches, on the three-acre former Best Western site.

The concept

The building has changed flags repeatedly: it operated as a Stakis hotel, then a Sheffield Hilton, then Best Western Plus Sheffield Quays Hotel, before Canadian firm Northland Properties — owner of Sandman Hotel Group — bought the three-acre site in June 2022 and rebranded it as Sandman Signature Sheffield Quays, the group's fifth UK hotel alongside existing properties in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Gatwick and Newcastle. An 18-month renovation beginning November 2023 fully refurbished all 128 existing bedrooms and moved the bar and restaurant down into the building's restored Victorian arches; a further 32 bedrooms with kitchenettes and balconies are due by summer 2026, bringing the total to 160.

Dining & wellness

Tavern on The Quays, a roughly 5,000-square-foot pub-style restaurant seating 90 with a private 40-person dining room, opened in the restored arches in September 2025. Leisure facilities have been rebranded Signature Spa & Leisure, with an expanded fitness suite and a 20-metre heated pool, sauna and steam room due further updates through 2026.
