Sheffield's first genuine four-star lifestyle hotel opened on Pinstone Street in June 2024, built behind a restored Victorian façade as the flagship of the city's £480m Heart of the City II regeneration. With 154 rooms and a rooftop restaurant looking over the Peace Gardens, it gives the city a design-led option it had been missing for years.

The place

The hotel occupies a prominent city-centre corner at 30 Pinstone Street, tucked behind the sympathetically restored Victorian façade of the former Palatine Chambers and City Mews, directly facing Sheffield's Peace Gardens and Town Hall as the flagship hospitality anchor of the £480m Heart of the City II regeneration scheme.

The concept

Commissioned by Sheffield City Council as the centrepiece of the Heart of the City II scheme, the Radisson Blu is a genuinely new hotel operation built behind a retained 19th-century façade, with architecture, conservation and interiors all handled by HLM Architects. Planning consent was granted in 2019, Radisson was announced as operator in March 2020, construction began in mid-2021, and rooms opened to guests on 10 June 2024 after bookings went live that March. The 154-room property was conceived from the outset as the city's first genuine four-star lifestyle hotel, filling a gap local press and council officials had long flagged, and it sits alongside the scheme's new Grade A offices, shops and public realm rather than as a standalone project. HLM describes its interior concept as an abstract celebration of Sheffield's industrial heritage and contemporary identity, translated through material choices, artwork and detailing rather than a generic corporate template — an approach intended to distinguish the hotel from the chain-standard business hotels that previously dominated the city centre.

Dining & wellness

The hotel's signature space is The Rooftop, a bar and restaurant on the upper floor overlooking the Peace Gardens and Town Hall; trade press covering the opening described its debut concept as a speakeasy-style venue with Indian-influenced dishes. The property also has six meeting and event spaces, an outdoor terrace and a 24/7 fitness centre; a spa is not part of the offer.
