One&Only Moonlight Basin

One&Only Moonlight Basin opened in November 2025 as Kerzner's first resort in the United States and the first mountain address for the brand. Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig spread its 92 keys — 73 rooms and suites plus nineteen forest cabins — low across 240 acres near Big Sky, with a 17,000-square-foot spa, an Akira Back restaurant and a heated gondola reaching Big Sky Resort in five minutes.

The place

The resort sits on 240 acres inside the Moonlight Basin community, on the flank of Lone Mountain and bordered by more than 17,000 acres of permanently protected land — part of the wider Big Sky area rather than its Town Center. Bozeman is about an hour away by road and Yellowstone National Park is close by; in winter a heated gondola drops guests at Big Sky Resort's Madison Base in five minutes.

The concept

Kerzner International announced the project with Lone Mountain Land Company in February 2022 for a 2024 opening; it finally received guests in November 2025, as the first One&Only in the United States and the first alpine resort in a portfolio built almost entirely on beaches and islands. Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig designed it as a deliberately low-rise development, spread among the trees with dark metal rooflines borrowed from local agricultural buildings and quarried stone and timber sourced nearby. The accommodation is split across a Main Lodge, an East Lodge and a West Lodge — guest rooms, interconnecting family rooms and king suites with separate living areas, topped by a Big Sky Suite with a wraparound terrace and outdoor soaking tub — plus nineteen freestanding cabins in the forest, each with its own soaking tub and fire pit, for 92 keys in total. Alongside them, a separate community of four- to six-bedroom One&Only Private Homes with garages, hot tubs and gourmet kitchens is being sold to owners, the first of its kind for the brand in the country. The resort runs all year: fifteen-plus miles of trails for snowshoeing, fat biking and Nordic skiing in winter, hiking and riding in summer, and a ski tuning centre equipped with the Wintersteiger Jupiter used by World Cup racers.

Dining & wellness

Executive chef Matt Dahlkemper oversees a five-outlet programme. Wildwood, in the Main Lodge, is the ranch-to-table room and the breakfast destination; The Landing sits in the Sky Lodge beside the gondola, serving American comfort food to skiers; and Akira Back brings the Michelin-starred chef's modern Japanese cooking to Montana. Drinking is split between Dear Josephine, an intimate cocktail bar in the Main Lodge named after the Prohibition-era bootlegger Josephine Doody, and Moonshack, a speakeasy cabin in the woods with a whiskey list and twenty-five cigars. Wellness runs to a 17,000-square-foot spa and wellness centre.
