The place
The resort sits at the heart of the Spanish Peaks Mountain Club, in Big Sky, Montana 59716, with ski-in and ski-out access to Big Sky Resort's slopes and to the Spanish Peaks golf course in summer. It is roughly an hour from Bozeman by road.
The concept
Montage Big Sky opened on 15 December 2021 after a build costing more than $400 million, and at over 500,000 square feet it is the largest building in Montana. The developer was Lone Mountain Land Company, the development arm of CrossHarbor Capital Partners, which has spent two decades assembling the private communities around Big Sky Resort and which went on to develop One&Only Moonlight Basin on the other side of the mountain. It was the property that reclassified Big Sky. Before it, the resort's growth had run almost entirely through private club membership and residential lots rather than branded hotels; Montage brought a nationally recognised luxury flag and, in 2024, a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating. The programme pairs 150 rooms and suites with 39 private residences, and the amenity list is unusually broad for a ski resort — indoor and outdoor pools, an ice rink, a bowling alley and golf access alongside the mountain.
Dining & wellness
Six food and drink outlets, led by Cortina and Alpenglow, with Wildflower Market for coffee and provisions, Beartooth Pub & Rec attached to the bowling alley and games area, and Backcast for drinks. Wellness is handled by Spa Montage, the group's own spa brand, alongside a fitness centre and the indoor and outdoor pools.
