Moxy Bristol

Marriott's youth-focused Moxy brand landed in Bristol in spring 2022 with a 214-room, factory-built hotel on Newfoundland Circus. Developed by Vastint Hospitality and run by Hotel Co 51, it swaps ornament for efficiency and a bar-first ground floor for a conventional lobby. It's a case study in how modular construction is reshaping mid-market hotel openings in UK cities.

The place

The hotel sits at 55-83 Newfoundland Road, facing Newfoundland Circus and a short walk from Cabot Circus shopping centre and Bristol Temple Meads station, putting it at the hinge between the city centre and the up-and-coming St Paul's/Old Market fringe rather than in the postcard core.

The concept

Moxy Bristol is not a conversion: it's a purpose-built, stepped seven-storey block assembled from off-site modular units, developed by Vastint Hospitality with Cumming and Co as architects and clad principally in brick, concrete and Corten steel. The design drew criticism from the Bristol Civic Society, which felt the standardised modular approach fell short of the site's urban design context — a reminder that Moxy's efficiency-first construction model has trade-offs beyond the room rate.

Dining & wellness

Bar Moxy anchors the ground floor as both check-in desk and social hub, with a complimentary welcome cocktail for arriving guests, plus a small gym; there is no restaurant or spa, in keeping with the brand's stripped-back, bar-led format.
