The place
55 Corn Street, in the heart of Bristol's historic banking and business district, a short walk from the Floating Harbour and the Old City.
The concept
Harbour Hotels bought the former Lloyds Bank headquarters on Corn Street — designed by Bristol architect William Bruce Gingell, whose facade drew on Sansovino's 16th-century Library of St Mark in Venice — along with the adjacent former Midland Bank building in 2015, converting the pair into a 42-room hotel that opened in October 2016. The conversion is a genuine change of use, from working bank branches to a hotel, rather than a same-flag refresh of an existing property.
Dining & wellness
Jetty, the hotel's restaurant, is run under Harbour Hotels' chef patron Alex Aitken. The spa, built into the former bank vaults, has seven treatment rooms, a hydro pool, sauna, steam room and a gym.
