Moxy Birmingham NEC

Moxy Birmingham NEC opened on 22 January 2020, an eight-storey, 224-room hotel built from the ground up as part of the £150 million Resorts World Birmingham development on the NEC campus, next to the arena and a short walk from Birmingham Airport. Run by Hotel Co 51, Marriott's largest Moxy franchise partner in Europe, it was built to serve exhibition and concert demand rather than city-centre leisure travel.

The place

The hotel sits on the National Exhibition Centre campus at Marston Green, on the edge of Birmingham, immediately alongside the NEC's Resorts World Birmingham retail and leisure complex and the Utilita Arena (formerly Genting Arena/Resorts World Arena), and within a few minutes of Birmingham Airport and Birmingham International rail station.

The concept

Moxy Birmingham NEC was built as part of the wider £150 million Resorts World Birmingham development rather than adapted from an existing building — an eight-storey, ground-up tower delivered by contractor Clark Contracts between August 2018 and January 2020, using an accelerated build method the contractor has cited as key to hitting the deadline. It is run by Hotel Co 51, Marriott's largest Moxy franchise partner in Europe, and leans into the venue next door: interiors reference the touring acts that play the arena, and the brand's usual millennial-facing playbook (compact rooms, a lively public-facing ground floor, self-check-in kiosks) is applied at a scale built for exhibition and concert crowds rather than city-centre leisure travellers.

Dining & wellness

As with other Moxy properties, food and drink is concentrated around Bar Moxy, the brand's signature all-day lobby bar, rather than a separate formal restaurant — pitched at guests moving in and out around NEC exhibitions, arena shows and airport connections rather than staying to dine.
