Dalata Hotel Group's first Brighton hotel, and the first Maldron on England's south coast, opened on the seafront in July 2024 immediately behind the Hilton Brighton Metropole. The £30m Topland Group development kept the site's Grade II-listed facade rather than replacing it, wrapping 226 rooms, a restaurant and five meeting rooms behind a restored Regency-era front.

The place

The hotel sits on Cannon Place on Brighton's seafront, immediately behind the Hilton Brighton Metropole and a few minutes' walk from the Brighton Centre — a stretch of waterfront otherwise dominated by grand Victorian-era hotels. Brighton's mainline station is about a 15-minute walk away and Gatwick Airport roughly 25 minutes by train, a detail Dalata leans on when courting business and conference guests.

The concept

Maldron Hotel Brighton is Dalata Hotel Group's first hotel in the city and the first Maldron on England's south coast, opened in July 2024 after a £30m development by Topland Group. Rather than clear the corner site, architect EPR Architects retained and restored its Grade II-listed facade, reworking it with a bay-window profile that references Brighton's Regency terraces while standing between the far larger Metropole and Grand hotels next door. Inside, the 226-room hotel runs on Dalata's upscale Maldron format — self-check-in pods in the lobby, wooden floors and rainfall showers in the rooms — built to a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating, an unusual level of environmental specificity for a hotel at this scale.

Dining & wellness

Food and drink run through Grain & Grill, the hotel's all-day restaurant and bar serving breakfast through dinner, with the separate Red Bean Roastery coffee dock handling the morning coffee trade. Guests also have access to an on-site gym and five meeting rooms fitted with Clevertouch screens, geared toward the corporate and conference market the hotel's management has pointed to as a core audience.
