Hôtel Maurice opened on Grande Allée in summer 2024 inside the century-old Manoir Price, a mansion that spent decades as the political headquarters of the Union Nationale and, later, as the legendary nightclub Chez Maurice. Three local investors spent over two years turning it into an Art Deco boutique hotel with a hidden speakeasy and a cigar lounge. It is Quebec City's most theatrical new hotel, built for guests who want nightlife wired into the room rate.

The place

The hotel occupies Manoir Price at 575 Grande Allée Est, in the Montcalm district just west of the Plaines d'Abraham — the heart of Quebec City's restaurant-and-nightlife strip, a short walk from the Old City walls.

The concept

Hôtel Maurice is built inside the century-old Manoir Price, a Tudor/Romanesque/Gothic Revival mansion put up in the early 1900s for lumber baron William Price. Over the following decades the building served as the headquarters of the Union Nationale political party and then, from the 1980s into the 2010s, as Chez Maurice, one of Quebec City's best-known nightclubs — which is where the hotel's name and premise come from. Three local investors, Nicolas Chrétien (Crakmédia), Daniel Vermette (GSE Immobilier) and Yannick Parent (Groupe SOGNO), bought the property in 2022 and spent more than two years converting it, with STGM Architecture and int.design leading an Art Deco-inspired renovation — burgundy fringe lighting, mint-green and white marble corridors, dusty-rose ceilings and iridescent gold-tiled bathrooms — into a hotel that leans into the building's nightlife-era reputation as much as its mansion-era architecture.

Dining & wellness

The ground floor houses Maurice Restaurant Lounge, a bar-restaurant serving dishes like scallop tacos and beef Wellington; Société Cigare is an on-site cigar lounge, and a hidden speakeasy (Le Charlotte) is tucked inside the building. In-room bars come stocked with ready-to-drink cocktails. DJs play the restaurant lounge on Friday and Saturday nights.
