Hôtel Maison du Fort occupies an 1851 Georgian house behind a stone façade in Old Québec and presents itself as a concept hotel. It opened in June 2025 as a small, independently run address, a few minutes on foot from Fairmont Le Château Frontenac and the Citadelle.

Entry rate From CAD 200 Learn more → The place The house stands on Avenue Sainte-Geneviève, inside the fortified walls of Old Québec, close to the Citadelle, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac and the Plains of Abraham. The street is residential and quiet compared with the tourist lanes around the château.
The building has three floors and no elevator, so luggage goes up the stairs; the hotel offers a luggage service. Pets are not allowed.
The concept The hotel keeps the character of the 1851 house, a Georgian building designated as heritage, and sets updated comforts behind its stone façade. It is small by design: sources disagree on the exact count, from six rooms and two suites to eight or nine units over three levels. The hotel's own site does not list a room count.
Guests book online through the hotel's own site. The hotel also lists a partner property, L'Oiseliere, in Montmagny.
Dining & wellness There is no restaurant, bar or spa. A continental breakfast is included, and the lanes of Old Québec, with their cafés and restaurants, are a few minutes away on foot.
Our take A low-key alternative to the grand heritage hotels of Old Québec, suited to travellers who want a small house and a quiet street. The absence of an elevator and of on-site services is the trade-off.

Pros: Gorgeous, Gothic style with exposed stone, black furniture, N'espresso machines and capsules, wine and drinking glasses, luxe Kohler fixtures, and accent lighting. Like a medieval castle with modern amenities.
The bathroom in room Deux was exemplary featuring a spacious, romantic double shower for couples that feels like a luxury spa retreat.
Wonderful staff. Very thoughtful, kind, and accommodating, especially with getting luggage up the steps. They had great local suggestions from everything on where to do laundry, buy regular clothes, not touristy t-shirts, and which local restaurants to try, etc. They offered me some delicious locally bottled maple syrup for my coffee, and provided complementary sparkling and still water, and N'espresso.
There is a large, classy and comfortable common area with a toaster oven and a microwave, plus tables, games, etc.
Cozy bathrobes, Oneka amenities and Humble Nature ceramic espresso cups and glassware add an elegant and authentic Canadian touch.
Great location, one block away from the park that leads to the boardwalk and the elevator to the lower town. The park is practically empty until 9:30 am.
Fun fact: The author of Le Petit Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry lived next door and socialized here.
Cons: I found body fluid stains on the duvet. Ick.
The duplex rooms Un and Deux cost more, but are ironcially more cramped than the less expensive one level room Trois. I banged myself head on the staircase a couple of times in duplex room Deux because there was no other place to open my suitcase except under the stairs (or in the bathroom and I didn't want the shower streaming up my clothes or to drag my suitcase up the open steps.)
Room Deux has a larger bathroom than room Trois, but has less space in the bedroom below, and lacks a kitchenette, chairs (no other place to sit than the bed) and you can barely turn around in the room. The bed takes up the entire space, which is why the common area is great.
I suggest renting the Maisonette if you want breathing room, a bathtub, and a kitchenette, and renting the duplex if you plan on being out most of the day.
The windows could also use some paper shades so people across the courtyard can't see anyone using the bathroom or shower. Closing the shutters for privacy blocks the lovely natural sunlight.

We had an amazing stay during our trip to Quebec. The suite was absolutely beautiful, modern and incredibly comfortable. You can really tell a lot of thought and care went into every detail to make the space feel welcoming and luxurious. The aesthetic was very clean and minimal, and everything felt high end and well maintained.
The layout was perfect for our family with a separate upstairs bedroom, downstairs sofa bed, two TVs, a powder room and a full bathroom with both a tub and shower. The suite also had everything we needed to feel comfortable during our stay a microwave, oven, kettle, coffee setup, complimentary drinks and snacks, dishes, glasses, cutlery, a dishwasher and even a washing machine and dryer which was especially convenient while traveling with kids. It truly felt more like a private luxury suite than a regular hotel room.
What made the experience even better was the staff. Front desk was incredibly kind, helpful and accommodating. On the first day it was somewhat hot and when we asked for fans they immediately brought us two separate fans for the suite. Every time we needed anything they responded right away and were always so pleasant and helpful.
It was a perfect and memorable experience for our family. Our daughter already keeps asking when we can come back again! We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Quebec.
Very cute room. The decor was unique and exactly what we look for in boutique hotel. The bed was to firm for our liking but some would want it that way.
The location is excellent and you are a few minutes walk from all the action.

Everything about this hotel is awesome. The staff is very friendly, the lady on the front door even prepared a restaurant recommendation list for us.
The room is really pretty and comfortable. We had an amazing bathtub, as well as a Nespresso machine, some snacks and a water filter.
The location is right in the heart of Old Quebec, which is great.
The common area also has a Nespresso machine, along with tea and some powder beverages, with comfortable couches and a cozy place to stay.
I highly recommend it!
