Sage Hospitality Group and Norwood Development Group are bringing the Catbird concept — extended-stay rooms with in-room kitchens and a gear-lending 'playroom' — to a second city, with a 180-room, seven-story hotel planned for downtown Colorado Springs. The place

The hotel is planned for the northwest corner of Cascade and Moreno avenues in Colorado Springs' New South End, a downtown pocket a short walk from the city's restaurant and nightlife strip. The seven-story building is new construction on the site, with no prior hotel to convert or replace.

The concept

Catbird Colorado Springs is the second property under the Catbird brand that Sage Hospitality Group built with Denver-based Catbird Hotel in RiNo, which opened in 2021 and established the concept: an independent, design-forward extended-stay hotel built around apartment-style rooms rather than a traditional room-and-suite mix. The Colorado Springs version carries the format over rather than diluting it, with rooms built around fully equipped kitchens and multifunctional loft beds aimed at longer stays. As in Denver, the property will include a signature 'playroom' lending program that loans out gear such as mopeds and snowboards for guests to use during their stay, along with a fitness center — amenities pitched at travelers staying multiple nights rather than a single overnight.

Dining & wellness

Plans call for an indoor-outdoor rooftop event space and ground-floor dining, with a restaurant confirmed on site. As of the most recent reporting, the operator has said specific dining concepts and chef partnerships will not be announced until closer to the opening date.

I enjoyed my stay at Catbird Hotel. The rooms were on the smaller side, but they were very clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The hotel has a fun, unique vibe and a great location for exploring Denver. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. If you’re looking for a stylish place to stay and don’t mind a more compact room, this is a great option for a downtown Denver getaway.

The staff was absolutely amazing! There weren't a ton of amenities, and unfortunately the hot tub was out of order, which I had really been looking forward to. However, they made up for it by surprising me with a complimentary room upgrade and drinks for my birthday, which I truly appreciated. Also...the body wash and lotion—OMG! They smelled incredible. I completely forgot to ask what brand or scent they use because I would absolutely buy it. The valet parking is a little pricey, but we chose it so we wouldn't have to haul our luggage from farther away, and it was worth the convenience. The room itself was so much fun! I loved the projector screen, and the extra-high bed was such a cool touch. The kitchenette had everything you would need if you wanted to cook a meal during your stay. The bathroom was a work of art. I loved the overhead rainfall shower and the handheld pull-out shower head—it felt so luxurious. Overall, we had a wonderful experience. One thing to note: the hotel is dog-friendly, so you may hear dogs barking occasionally, but it wasn't excessive. Thank you, Catbird, for helping make my birthday special. I hope to stay with you again soon!

Great hotel. The room was great, plenty of space for 2 people. The bed was comfy and we really liked the projector to watch tv. It's in a good location, not too far from Downtown but far enough from it to not be full of traffic or loud crowds. The rooftop bar was a cool place to hang out. I would definitely rebook if I'm ever in Denver again.

I’ve worked in hotels and hospitality for almost 20 years. I’ve taken classes that visit unique hotels around the world. I’ve gone on dozens of site visit to see properties… and I have to say Catbird is on the top of my list of favorite hotels. It’s SO cute and well designed. The rooms are designed to maximize every bit of space and have projectors. They are some of the most unique rooms I’ve seen at a hotel. The towels are huge. The rooftop bar has great vibes. The food is good. The staff was really nice and helpful. This was still one of the less expensive options in the area. I can’t say enough good things about this hotel.

My boyfriend and I stayed overnight when going to see Ed Sheeran at Empower Field. The hotel is very cute and the rooms are nice, but we paid for a suite and the curtains did not work, so that was the biggest annoyance we encountered. The breakfast sandwiches included in the stay were delicious, fresh made, and much bigger than we anticipated. We enjoyed the morning coffee bar as well. We would stay again, but hope for a room where the curtains worked as our room faced directly onto a busy street, so we lacked privacy. The hotel did make it somewhat right and gave us some money off the total cost of the room.
